Four Season Room Addition
The 5stone team is all about transparency. We’re here to help you get an idea of what to expect when starting a new design project. For the first time ever, we’re sharing details around our building process!

Springfield Court - Before Photo
Our Springfield Court project has come a long way in just a few short months. What began as a simple one-dimensional patio on the back side of this home is now becoming a warm and welcoming outdoor living space for our clients to enjoy.
Every design starts with a vision. For this homeowner, that vision fulfilled a desire for a place to sit back at the end of a busy week and unwind with a nice, smooth cigar.
Before construction of a new build begins we must first establish the footing.
The role of a footing is to support our new structure by creating an attachment point between the foundation and the soil beneath it. As you can imagine, this means we have to dig. In our industry, we refer to the digging process as ‘excavation’. We determine the depth and dimensions of our footing based on the region and the frost line.
This foundation wall is resting on a footing that is 6 feet wide!
As you can see, our structure is starting to take shape! Walls are going up and we can now see how high the vaulted ceiling will be.
Most homes and home additions have a roofing system built with trusses. A trussed roof is best described as a structural framework of timbers linked by horizontal beams. For this project we’re going ‘old school’, meaning we are building this roof with rafters instead. There are a variety of reasons why a homeowner would choose to have additions like this built with rafters. For our client, it was a desire for uninterrupted vaulted ceilings that would ultimately be finished with beautiful tongue and groove fir wood panels.
Many things in our business have been effected by pandemic setbacks. New windows are one of them. What once took a few weeks to deliver can now take several months to arrive. Ordinarily we would install windows at this stage of the process, once the rafters are in place, but we had to adjust our process in order to keep things moving while we waited for our delayed window shipment to arrive.
